Dear Parents/Guardians,

I'm still waiting on consent forms from a number of pupils in the class. I would appreciate if these forms could be returned at your earliest convenience.

Warm regards,

Mr Keogh.

Maths Problem of the Week!

Michael is getting ready to go to a football match. He wants to figure out how many people will be there. He knows that there are 25 rows of seats, and each row has 10 seats in it. How many seats are there in the football stadium?

Remember!

We have looked over our RUDE strategy in class today.

R - Read the problem and make sure you understand what is being asked.

U - Underline the important parts of the problem.

D - Draw it out! This can really help you see what is being asked.

E - Estimate your answer.

Always remember to CHECK your answer!!

We need to know our measures!

It's September and we're working hard.

We've been busy with the Dubliners and could very well have sold out the O2 with our performance at last weeks assembly. The boys learned about the band and sang the classic ballad Dirty Old Town. Learning was also integrated with our art as we made an awesome set of guitars to accompany our performance!

Below is a link with the song and lyrics for you all to sing along to at home!

We've also covered a great deal in History. The images below are of our class project based on The Great Famine. Key areas of study included:

  • Ireland in the 19th Century
  • The potato crop and the blight
  • Emigration
  • Landlords and farming
  • Under the Hawthorn Tree by Marita Conlon McKenna
Our Class Project

Letters written to family abroad telling of the famine at home.

Welcome!!

Hi,

I would like to begin by welcoming you to the St Kevin's BNS 5th Class blog. Having already spent over two weeks with the pupils of 5th class, I can confidently say that I am very much looking forward to being their class teacher for the forthcoming year. If you have any concerns regarding the educational needs of your child please feel free to make an appointment to see me (outside of class hours) with our school secretary Catherine Redmond.

Warm regards,

Mr. Keogh.

Why have a School Blog??

The reasons for my use of a blog are as follows;
  • It provides you the Parent/Guardian with a window into the classroom and shines light on the type of learning your child experiences.
  • It is an efficient mode of communication between the class teacher and the home.
  • Pupils' learning can be supported by the availability of curriculum content online. Also, areas of the curriculum that require particular attention can also be posted.
  • Children get a chance to see the fruits of their education in an online setting. Also, the weekly /monthly awards will be posted.
  • It is a new and exciting way to engage parents in their children's' learning.
